Preparations are under way for the 2004 U.S. Olympic
Team Trials for Track and Field. The event will once
again feature eight days of competition over ten days
in July. The top three finishers in each event will
represent the United States at the Olympic Games in
Athens.
USA Track and Field is thrilled to be returning
to Sacramento for the 2004 Trials, USA Track
& Field CEO Craig Masback said. (The 2000)
Trials were the most successful in history, with eight
days of sellout crowds. From our perspective, it was
the most successful Olympic Trials ever, in any sport.
USA Track & Field and the Sacramento Sports Commission
can now benefit from having one Olympic Trials under
our belts, and we look forward to an even better Olympic
Trials in 2004.
Sacramento is only the second city ever to host consecutive
Olympic Trials for Track and Field.
The 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track and Field
attracted a record 187,104 spectators, surpassing
the previous record set in Atlanta in 1994. Sacramento
hopes to break its own record the second time around.
The Sacramento Region Sports Education Foundation
(SRSEF), the group responsible for conducting the
Trials began offering memberships to the Foundation
in late 2001 with members being offered an opportunity
to reserve their tickets for the 2004 Trials. As of
March, 2002 SRSEF boasted a membership of over 700
with members placing deposits on more than 2,400 seats.
In January, 2003 ticket renewall packages were sent
to the members of SRSEF giving them the very first
oppoirtunity to purchase tickets for the Olympic Trials.
In March 2003, ticket purchasers from the 2000 Trials
will be sent information on how to secure their tickets
before they are offered to the public in early June.
